Permata Hijau Group (PHG) is partnering with Yayasan Leuser Internasional (YLI) in a program to rehabilitate degraded land in Desa Tingkem Bersatu and Desa Tingkem Asli, Kecamatan Bukit, Kabupaten Bener Meriah, Aceh, Indonesia.

The rehabilitation program aims to restore 60 ha (hectare) of degraded and burnt land by planting 8,000 coffee plants and hardwood trees such as avocado, mindi, lekap, kesemek and kerto that serves as shade, water storage and erosion prevention. The program will also provide job opportunities for 52 local coffee farmers.

The program was launched on 4 November 2021 in Balai Desa Tingkem Bersatu and is marked by the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between representatives from PHG and YLI. Stakeholders from Tingkem Bersatu village government, local plantation agency, as well as local farmers and coffee planters were present to witness the ceremony.

In his welcoming address, Henry, Head of Sustainability of PHG stated that the company’s participation in this project is the manifestation of PHG’s commitment to preserve the environment and support community development. It is aligned with PHG’s vision which is “to be the leading and sustainable palm oil company.”

Said Fauzan, the Director of YLI was delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with PHG in preserving the environment. He hopes that this program will turn out successfully and become the basis of a continued partnership between PHG and YLI in the future.
